For some people, no form of treatment has any effect on their acne and the strongest treatments are required. In this scenario, there is a specific drug called oral isotretinoin, known as Accutane in the USA and Roaccutane in the UK.

How Isotretinoin works
Isotretinoin improves acne by:
reducing the formation of sebum
reducing the formation of whiteheads and blackheads
reducing bacteria and inflammation
Once the isotretinoin acne treatment is stopped, there is almost a 50 percent chance that the acne will return since the sebum production would increase again.
